In looking at uniforms in this light a particular group of individuals stood out to me. I begin to picture all of our first responders. When I think of a police officer, firefighter or military personnel I can immediately picture their uniforms.

I know several people in this line of work that shows great emotion when they talk about how they felt the first time they put on their uniform. Although the uniform itself is just articles of clothing they know it stood for so much more.

Another example that comes to mind when I think of groups of individuals wearing uniforms I picture sports teams. I can see the logos on their shirts and the hats that goes with the uniforms.

I also can envision so many people wearing other forms of clothing to represent those teams. People spend a lot of money each year on buying their favorite teams shirts, jerseys and hats.

That is their way of belonging with or relating to the team they cheer on. Uniforms can stand for so much more than just clothing. Certain uniforms gives people an automatic respect or an instant connection to a particular group.

It is human nature that we want to belong, we want to fit in. This feeling can start at an early age by having our public schools require school uniforms.
